Welcome to Su's Corner
January/February 2025
A few years ago, my younger daughter sent this picture she took while on a walk in the English countryside. As you can see, the landscape was covered with frost. The path seems to disappear into the distance because of the heavy fog/mist.
I rediscovered this picture a couple of weeks ago. Immediately I was reminded of how fitting it was as the new year approached. The scene seemed to convey how uncertain the future can look as we embark on a new year, not knowing what may lie ahead or where the path before us will lead. Will there be sunshine on the other side of the hill or beyond the mist? Will the path be strewn with ruts and rocks to hinder moving forward or smooth and easy, making my way effortless and even a joy?
We can all recall thoughts like these in our lives. Each one of us has stood at the start of a new year; some more years than others, of course. Even as a Christian one cannot help wondering what the year ahead will bring. One thing we can know for certain are God’s promises will be with us - no matter what. The comfort from that promise alone means I can take a deep breath and relax, knowing God holds the future for me. God holds your future in His loving, grace-filled hands, as well, dear one. Therefore, you can be certain you will have a… Happy New Year!

SHARING GOD’S WORD…
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience…Galatians 5:22
This “fruit” does not find its source in us. The source of this fruit is the Spirit. From the moment God burst into your heart and placed his Spirit in you, you have the fruit of the Spirit - The fruit that consists of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
The fruit of patience comes from the heart of God’s love, and we see it in Christ’s unlimited patience. God’s patience gives us salvation. The fruit of patience grows when we remember love is the commitment to do the right thing. Losing patience is a sign of weakness; patience comes from a position of power and
strength in the Lord! If you find yourself not to be patient with the sins of others, the problem lies not with them. THE PROBLEM IS YOU. You need to grow in love. You need to grow in the commitment to do the right thing. The fruit of patience grows when we remember joy is the attitude that God has a good plan for me. We are children who have been saved by the patient love of God! Patience comes from a position of power/control/ trusting God. The fruit of patience grows when we remember peace is the commitment that “referees” my life. We are born impatient - impatience comes from a heart that seeks to be first. When we grow in spiritual strength it really means we grow in ability to rest in God’s can, we understand God’s peace and let His peace referee our lives. The fruit of patience leads us to be still and know that God is fighting for us. Patience is a calm endurance based on the certain knowledge that God is in control. Be still and know the Lord will fight for me - to be “still” doesn’t always mean “no activity” but often includes obedient action.
READ: Psalm 37:7; 1 Peter 3:9; Ephesians 4:2; Colossians 1:10-12; James 1:7-9; Proverbs 19:11; 1 Thessalonians 3:5; 2 Peter 3:15.
Dear Jesus, Your love bore all my impatient desires to advance myself and my way. Forgive me. Instill in me the love that is truly patient, stemming from the immeasurable patience shown to me. Help me live in Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Proclaim the greatness of the LORD with me and let us exalt his name together. Psalm 34:3
